The Food Fairies

I live in a lovely old renovated department store that has been converted into shops below and apartments above. Mine has two large windows overlooking Main Street.

I have discovered that one of the most charming thing about our home is the Food Fairies. We have two women in the building who have consistantly shown their gifts of hospitality by bringing us dinners and desserts. They just ring the doorbell and run...but I caught one once.

Both these ladies are "of a certain age" and it seems that their generation has much to teach mine about generosity and kindness. It has prompted me to join the Food Fairies as well and deliver a couple of anonymous loaves of my own. And as a newcomer in town, it makes me feel more at home.

  1. This brought back memories of my own "laundry fairy." She was over 90 years old, and our back yards were adjacent. If I didn't get the clothes off the clothesline quick enough, she would fold and IRON them and leave them neatly on my back porch.

  2. I used to do this back home, mainly with cookies. But soon what I would do is fill up my car with my girls, and we would park the car a couple blocks away from the house. And we would sneak up, (of course it was close to 9 or 10 at night), but then we would ring the door-bell and run like mad. Laughter would soon be ringing in my car... how I miss those times. Have fun New Food Fairy you!

  3. IRONED?! How wonderful! I confess that I may have been tempted to leave the laundry out just a little too long.
